On the north part of Mount Galicica, at an elevation of 1130 meters above sea level, lies the village of Skrebatno. Here, nature unveils its true artistry and spirit, captivating visitors with a mesmerizing composition of dense oak forests and expansive green fields. As you embark on your ascent, after a two-hour biking journey up the mountain’s steep slopes, Skrebatno reveals itself like a hidden bird’s nest, with its quaint old houses scattered along the right side of the slope.
Walking through the village feels like stepping into an open-air museum, where time appears to stand still. The village is sparsely populated, and its serene ambiance evokes a sense of tranquility. Perched high above the houses, the pride of the villagers shines—the church of Sveta Bogorodica, or The Virgin. This sacred place holds deep significance for the locals, and the village celebrates its annual holiday, the Ascension of The Virgin, on August 28th according to the Orthodox calendar. On this special day, around 5000 people from Ohrid and the surrounding areas gather at the church, and traditional lunches are served on the nearby fields.
